The project is developed in the neighborhood of Guápulo in Quito, it is an old indigenous settlement that went from being a town on the outskirts of the city to becoming an urban neighborhood with a heterogeneous population. Most of the houses are self-built and housed extended families. With the passage of time, they became rental houses mainly for artists, migrants, tourists, and students.
Casa MJ156 sits on a corner lot within a private suburban estate. This given condition, a typified territory, of a different urbanity in traditional terms, is always a challenge, an opportunity for reflection through a specific project.
Located in a traditional “Madrilenian Corrala” building, find a place this two-level apartment is bounded by a façade and an inner courtyard with a historic character.
Piedras Negras house is located in Rupanco Lake, North Patagonia of Chile, in the Lakes Region. The house is placed on the border of a native forest, facing the shore of the lake which still is rural and low-developed, giving a special atmosphere to the site. We were asked to design a simple house for holidays, where most of the uses are related to the lake, and wintertime when it´s very rainy and most of the activities are in the house. When we first visit the place, one of the main ideas was not to lose the feeling of living in nature, and for that reason are layout had to be surrounded by nature, breaking the distinction between in and out. The house is designed in a perfect rectangle where all the program is organized linearly and open to the lake. Two patios cut the volume into three parts where nature brokes the spatial continuity of the structure and invades the interior.
The site. On the outskirts of the city, in a mountainous topography, far, yet close. We are located on the hill Auqui, one of the slopes that border the city of Quito. This location is separated from the city by a river. However, it is a 20-minute drive to downtown.
El Otro Cielo is a pavilion on the side patio of an old Catholic temple belonging to the religious community of Santa Amalia del Sauce, in the Maule Region, Chile. The proposal is installed as a temporary aid responding to the health emergency caused by covid 19. It consists of a circular structure of 10 meters in diameter that contains a small garden that incorporates new plant species.
Zapiola 301 is a ten-unit apartment building located in the Colegiales neighborhood, of Buenos Aires. The project is implanted on a lot with access through Zapiola street, bordering Plaza de Los Colegiales, which is part of a large system of parks, squares, and infrastructure between the streets Matienzo, Cramer, Álvarez Thomas, and Dorrego. This great urban void works as a buffer between the neighborhoods of Palermo, Colegiales, Belgrano, and Chacarita.
Music and festivities play a fundamental role in Nacajuca´s daily life, both in the Mesoamerican-rooted pochó dance and in contemporary manifestations.
Designed in 1900, the building responds to the elegant and geometric decorations that refer to the typical experience of modernist architecture in Barcelona.
To describe the argumentation that supports this project, we find it interesting to start with a question: How to reconcile the different resources we have for future living, for producing an architecture that operates within the real estate market? Within the uniqueness of the productive, constructive, and social economy, that is, the resource economy of Argentina in 2019-2021, we propose the description of a specific and local model in which the economy, logistics, resources, production systems, and a certain aspect of industrialization through metal structures became a working system for the studio, in certain projects underway and specifically in this recently completed work.
