EKH Children Hospital / S:CSB

January 22, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

Design Philosophy: Playing is Healing. Key Concept: ‘Children Dimension’. A hospital is the kind of place most people would rather avoid as much as they can. We have witnessed more medical institutions’ attempt to create a more pleasant and friendlier environment, some with the architecture and interior decoration that are almost equivalent to a shopping mall or hi-end hotels. If such built environment can make the feeling of going to a hospital for us adults more tolerable somehow, what about the experience of the little ones?

Axis Vanam / The Purple Ink Studio

January 21, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

Axis Vanam (Vanam meaning ‘Forest’ in Sanskrit) is a project that aims to be a green oasis within the chaos of its surroundings. The project was initiated with the idea of condensing the gap between the built and greens. With a little research of the neighborhood, we identified the diminishing greens and dying lakes in the vicinity. Vanam is a reaction to this increasing breach in the urban fabric. It is designed as a stimulus to restore the balance in the built and green spaces blurring the boundaries between the two.

Vidya Devi Jindal School of Nursing / SpaceMatters

January 20, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

SpaceMatters was invited to design a School of Nursing in the existing campus of the Institute of Medical Science in Agroha, Haryana. This building is a gift from a reputed industrial house whose roots lie in the city. The brief was to design a modern, state-of-the-art facility within the Institute to provide affordable healthcare to a predominantly rural population. We took our design cues from the existing campus which uses the vocabulary of Corbusier’s Chandigarh, and from the nearby ‘Mounds of Agroha’ that date back to the Harappan civilization (4th century BC).

Light Falls House / FLOW Architecture + Magrits

January 20, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The project consists of the practically complete demolition and reconstruction of the existing dwelling — a large four-storey end-of-terrace house, originally built in 1851 — together with the addition of a basement and a double-height rear-extension. Challenging the traditional way of inhabiting historical housing, the project responds to the needs of a family dissatisfied with the poor quality of light inside the building and with the compartmentalised Victorian layout. Spatial planning was driven by maximising the potential for natural light and the fluidity of the vertically stacked living spaces, in order to accommodate the client’s living requirements and their growing art collection.

LEGO Parking House / CEBRA

January 20, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

CEBRA designs playful façades for LEGO parking house. The five-storey parking facility is located in Billund and will serve the staff of the new LEGO Campus in the central part of the town. From the start it has been a desire from the Owner that the parking house façade design should have a relation to the LEGO brand. A LEGO City road facade “You understand the content of this building immediately”, Mikkel Frost founding CEBRA partner explains. “Moreover, it expresses the LEGO brand in its interpretation of the iconic LEGO City road plates originally designed in 1977 and still in production. We have simply “borrowed” the road plates from the children’s playroom and transformed them into façade elements by putting them on the front of our building”, Mikkel Frost explains.
