La Vie Residence / SOHO Architects

Set amidst a fairly occupied locality, a few kilometers away from the National Highway that connects Kochi and Kozhikode, two coastal cities in the southern state of Kerala, the east-facing site was already sided by houses on its north-south boundaries, which became a deciding factor in the massing design of the residence. The residence was envisioned as three blocks with the majority of openings directed towards the central courtyard, shielded from the front road by a screen wall allowing the breezes to rustle in while establishing the required privacy.

Ogre Central Library and Marriage Registry / PBR Architects Bureau

The raw beauty of forest and river combined with the warmth and comfort of small historic wooden summer houses with pitched roofs are the main characteristics of resort town Ogre, that inspired the new community library. The new building was carefully placed on the hilly site to preserve as much natural forest cover as possible. The idea of the new building staying behind the trees and looking through them resembles the bit shy and introverted nature of Latvians.

Hotel at Bodhgaya / SJK Architects

Bodhgaya is where the Buddha is deemed to have received enlightenment. However, his influence in the surrounding areas has resulted in a trail of amazing Buddhist monuments and institutions. The skill of brick making in this region led to a distinctive architectural vocabulary of corbeled arches and brick vaults. The architectural vocabulary of the entire hotel draws inspiration from these historical references of Buddhist structures in the area – The Mahabodhi temple, the Buddhist Monasteries, Stupas…

Group Home on Hilltop / SOGO AUD

Welfare develops Community, and Community develops Welfare. Built on a hilltop-looking Mt. Fuji, this is a group home for people with intellectual disabilities, under a big umbrella where everyone in the area can easily gather.  The operator is trying to make a new welfare facility that is deeply rooted in the local community, by operating this not only as a group home, but also as a children’s cafeteria, a meeting place for senior clubs, and an evacuation place.  To that end, architecture sought a way of building that would foster connections with the surrounding area beyond the site boundaries.

Bruz Utopia Housing / Champenois Architectes

The UTOPIA residence is a new address in the town of Bruz, located on the edge of the Herverie park, a stone’s throw from the town center. It is a quiet building set on the slope of the land, a large vessel whose bow, open to the public garden, invites the residents to enter an interior world sheltered by a glass roof.

On a sliver of land just four meters wide, Sayer Street packs in the infrastructure to support all the social life which characterizes London’s best-loved high streets. Set against the construction hoarding for mixed-use development within the Elephant Park masterplan, the project complements the recently opened terrace of cafes and restaurants on the south of Sayer Street until the other half of the high street is complete.

HP Office Building / Kiến Trúc NDT

HP Building is located in a densely populated area in Bac Ninh province. The project has an area of ​ 440m2 (20.9m x 21.1m) and the main facade to the northwest. The owner expects a living space that closely connects to nature, makes the most of natural light and has plenty of resting space. Moreover, a unique and distinctive façade is one of the owner’s requirements.

Interchange Pavilion / Studio Chris Fox

‘Interchange Pavilion’ by Studio Chris Fox is a meeting place where tracks converge, a place of interchange where paths cross. Peeling from the ground plane, geometries arc overhead to create an embracing volume; a point of confluence. Drawing inspiration from the precinct’s rail history, artist director of the of multi-disciplinary design studio Chris Fox, worked with the salient geometries of the railroad switch. This is the point at which a train can change its course, moving from one trajectory to another.

Aquarium House / NAO IWANARI Architecture

Looking at the aquarium that reproduces the inside of the sea through the glass, wide-open areas, shades of rocks and plants, cave-like holes, etc. Places with various properties are mixed in an unseparated space. It opens towards the surface of the water at the top and brightens, the fish come and go on each level while performing activities suitable for the place.
