NIO Delivery Center / Kokaistudios

February 20, 2023 Collin Chen 0

At over 12,000 sqm, it is the brand’s largest and is located on the site of a former factory in Jiading district. As well as building a new and iconic facade, Kokaistudios’ renovation extended to creating welcoming, functional interiors for the facility’s ground floor public space. Dynamic, open, and with a strong focus on hospitality, the interiors are in keeping with a design template developed for NIO by Kokaistudios last year and debuted at NIO House in Jinan. In Shanghai, these elements combine to transform a previously unremarkable industrial site into an eye-catching brand beacon, all the while delivering on NIO’s user-first concept.

The site of the project is typical of a common high-rise office building, with its corner location on the floor providing plenty of natural light. The client required two counseling rooms, a lounge area, a big salon,a reception area, and an office. The challenge of the design is firstly how to organize such a variety of functions in a constrained site, while still keeping the space bright, uncluttered, and open; secondly is how to create a special atmosphere which suitable for Psychological Counselling, through simple materials and construction methods, given the limited cost.

Located on the ground floor of Shanghai Changfeng Joy City, Ninth Coffee occupies one corner of the outdoor atrium of the shopping mall. The all-outdoor climate, the square scale of the hall, and the street neighborhood feel bring the project a special urban atmosphere. The café starts with an“anchor”: Kiosk. Like a small side pavilion in a public square of a city, it opens up in all directions. Its powerful presence catches the eyes of pedestrians coming from any direction – a center for trading and communication.

A Garden / Fangwei Architect

February 15, 2023 Collin Chen 0

Gardening has always been a representation of people’s pursuit of the ideal living environment. This project closely follows the functions of Only Flower floral art studio’s creations and external displays by providing the necessary conditions for florists to create beauty. The interior and exterior spaces merge with each other and integrate organically with the landscape through a unified architectural language. In doing so, a serene and dreamlike “garden of flowers” is created. The flower — is a signifier of beauty and vitality. As a floral studio, we established this simple and beautiful little courtyard in Hongxing Guangyuan Industrial Park in Beijing’s Daxing District, where it was converted from an old factory building. A free-flowing curved glass-brick wall connects the interior and exterior with a cohesive architectural language that leads guests through the entranceway, where they may carry on into the interior, or linger in the courtyard to indulge in a moment of tranquility

Village Opera / IILab.

Cultural backgrounds: Rural Revitalization, Rural Construction and Human Intervention – Modern society has released people from the contract with their land, and the human heart is no longer bound to the earth. When people are no longer attached to the land for granted, villages face the dilemma of what shall it use to grow and retain people. With the rapid development of cities, the countryside has become a selfless supplier of production factors such as land resources and human capital. Those villages that are not rich in arable land, like Beigou Village, can only export young and middle-aged labor to the outside world. This loss of population desertified the land and dilapidated dwellings. What cannot be bypassed in revitalizing the countryside is to reverse this one-way flow of people from the village to the city, allowing people to return from the city to the village, whether it is for short-term consumption or long-term living and working.

Diejiao, also known as Shuangxi, has a history of nearly 1,000 years. It was first established in 1101 AD and was formed by water. It is part of the alluvial plains of Xijiang and Beijiang. The traditional cultural activities in the marketplace, which have been going on for thousands of years, are especially valuable under the modern model of rapid consumption. At the same time, there are rich traditional folk activities, such as dragon boat, martial arts lion club, and Cantonese opera, whose own cultural characteristics are very distinct. “Dragon boat drift” is a must-see point of the dragon boat festival every year, people crowded with narrow lanes, waiting for a moment when the dragon boat sharp turn.

Original BTC Taipei / Soar Design Studio

February 11, 2023 Collin Chen 0

Located in a quiet alley near the Zhongshan MRT station, occupying the first floor of an old 4-story duplex apartment building, the site captures a typical view of nostalgic Taipei. Right opposite the site, a traditional temple called “You-chou”, meaning “in need”, further enriches the local scene and style of Taiwan. For the past 4 decades, the house served as a general office. We opened up the kitchenette and turned it into part of the gallery space, while the original red embossed floor tiles still show traces of the old house. The backyard, once an extended warehouse, is transformed into an outdoor garden. In addition, the entrance wall was pushed back for an interior courtyard “between” in and out, introducing the view from the front yard to blur the old boundaries of space and bring in a sense of intrigue.
