Boise State University Center for the Visual Arts / HGA + Lombard Conrad

January 19, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

The Center for the Visual Arts at Boise State University is a new 97,600 SF state-of-the-art facility that exemplifies the University’s commitment to the arts. Located on the west edge of campus, the University envisioned the Center as a pivotal cultural link and gateway between the campus and its community. The program includes 2D and 3D disciplines, critique spaces, public exhibit galleries, faculty and administrative offices. Three main programmatic elements shape the massing: a tall art studio wing clad in limestone and glazed on the north, providing expansive views to the Boise River and Downtown; a two-story exhibition gallery wing clad in blue stainless steel; and a highly transparent lobby that serves as the light-filled connective tissue between the two.

Apartament in Delicias / EME157 estudio de arquitectura

We find an old house located on a 4th floor, it had a long dark corridor, which communicated all the concatenated rooms around a bright interior courtyard, and two rooms that faced the exterior with very good light as well. The main objective was to eliminate that corridor, to appropriate the inner courtyard, so that it looked like one more room, allowing the entire apartment to be communicated visually and making light enter the entire apartment. The apartment, designed to be rented temporarily for executives, allowed us to think of a Loft model, where the kitchen was fully open and the master bedroom could optionally be opened to the living room through a sliding partition.

Proa Cervejaria (brewery) is a well-known brand in Bahia, which brews its own beers and beer flavors from partners all over the state. For the brand’s first bar in the capital, out of Lauro de Freitas’ brewery, they chose a building with 140m², in one of the most bohemian neighborhood of Salvador, where there are a lot o pedestrians crossing the sidewalk, following the request from the clients, we designed a new facade that directly relates to the street.

My first inspiration was the trip to Milan, where I saw the color trends and started by choosing my palette, which are earthy and pastel shades, ranging from roses, blues and greens. Between project time and inauguration we would have only 45 days so many solutions adopted went from a quick work to a 40 m2 apartment with kitchen and bathroom.

Condeixa House / BAAU + Diego Inglez de Souza

January 16, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

Located in the old part of Condeixa-a-Nova, a historical town in the Coimbra region, this house belonged to a Portuguese family that immigrated to Brazil in the 1960s. For three decades the house was in ruins until recently a great-grandson got the opportunity of rebuilding it. The owner, an architect graduated in FAU-USP, comments on the experience of the design and building process, which ended up being an exchange of knowledge and experiences with the local architect in charge, Bernardo Amaral from BAAU, an architecture office based in Porto.

Recovery of Merola’s Tower / Carles Enrich Studio

January 16, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

In the south of the municipality of Puig-Reig stand the remains of the heritage site of the castle of Merola, dated from the late thirteenth century. Due to the documented earth tremors that shook Catalonia in the 1500s, only one of the faces of the defense tower, originally with a rectangular plant of 5 x 3,8 m and 14,8 m height, is still standing. The detachment of part of its coronation in 2016 put Puig-reig Town Council on alert. The high risk of collapse, with the subsequent loss of the monument, called for an intervention to guarantee the preservation of the remains and the recovery of the building for the village as an attraction for visitors.

Galpón House / 2172 / asociados

January 16, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

The House is conceived as a neutral, atemporal Artifact; It´s not defined by time or technology, as much as it is by the iconographic legacy of the Chilean countryside. The shape is simple: A two-story, weather-resistant, gable-roofed wooden shed, that solves the project requirements in an efficient, inexpensive and perdurable way. The site is large, surrounded by pine trees and with a strong slope falling towards the lake.
