J. G. Jabbra Library and R. Nassar Central Administration Building / Atelier Pagnamenta Torriani

April 23, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

The Lebanese American University commissioned Atelier Pagnamenta Torriani to design a new Library and a Central Administration building on its Byblos Campus—above the city of Jbeil (or Byblos), where the Phoenicians codified the world’s first phonetic alphabet. The excavated rock and the bare mountain above the site were my first impressions while visiting the Byblos Campus area. Thus, the exposed sedimentary rock and the complex, stratified history of the region became the main inspiration for APT’s design.

All existence is born from the earth and is a circle that returns to the earth. TOILETOWA is an architecture of circulation and regeneration that makes this visible. More than just a toilet, it was built as an environmental education space attached to the headquarters of Ishizaka Corp in Oak Forest,  which recycles industrial waste and serves as a model for a future waste-free, recycling-oriented society.

The Beijing 798 Art Zone was originally a factory campus built in the 1950s with the help of the Soviet Union and East Germany, designed in the Bauhaus style for electronic equipment production. Since the 2000s, it has been revitalized as an art street and transformed into an area housing influential galleries from around the world. We designed the first White Stone Gallery on the Chinese mainland in this 798 district, following those in Taipei and Hong Kong.

Alexandria House / Lachlan Seegers Architect

Located within a suburb that has witnessed radical transformation over the past 150 years, this terrace house was constructed in 1886 as part of a row of seven single-story terrace houses erected simultaneously in various styles. The passage of time and the shifting demographic of the suburb resulted in the single-story terrace falling into a state of utter disrepair. It was therefore decided that the existing, street-facing contributory structure should be restored and nurtured whilst the rear, dilapidated structures that had accumulated over its lifetime should be removed to make way for a new method of occupying the site.

We took charge of the first flagship store project of LADOR, a Korean hair product brand. The client wanted a resting place in the space of LADOR where they could comfortably receive hair care. Here we proposed a space filled with architectural devices incorporating LADOR’s brand philosophy, based on a comfortable home of LADOR.

The House in Between Small and Large / Nameless Tree Design

April 21, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Creating the connection between people & nature and people & people. Faced with a community park, the design was focused on the connection with the environment of nature. On the other hand, because it is difficult for the wind to reach the inner part of the site, we need to create natural air circulation and bring light into the enclosed space. As a result, by placing multiple “intermediate spaces”—using the concept of horizontal and vertical courtyards, we try to connect the entire space, making it possible to freely “flow” in various areas in the house.

Stravinskij Salon / Seear-Budd Ross

April 21, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Stravinskij’s origins are steeped in Wellington’s hair and beauty heritage. The original Stravinskij salon, established in 1991 and located at The Intercontinental Hotel, was the flagship of Constantin Harach, a recent emigre from Lebanon. The salon was synonymous with forward-thinking hair and beauty treatments. With the reincarnation of the Stravinskij brand came an opportunity to develop a recognizable spatial and atmospheric signature at a new site that was only a stone’s throw from the original. The brief called for a sophisticated and sustainable design response that established a restorative and calm experience for patrons and staff. The brief also required a considered approach to the choreography of arrival, being greeted, having a consultation, washing of the hair/skin treatment, cutting, product consultation, and farewell.

“Distinct – Discrete – Delicate”. These are the defining characteristics of this house. The project was constructed from the framework of an original house situated on a 3,200 sqm—plot of land. The owners consulted with us on what could be done with the existing house. They’re looking for a home that exuded modern character, spaciousness, and high privacy.
