Island Rest / Ström Architects

‘Island Rest’ is our response to our client’s brief for a contemporary family holiday home.  Situated on a beautiful Isle of Wight creek, ‘Island Rest’ sits on a spacious site with direct access to the water and views of the Solent beyond. Our clients wanted a special space to escape to that would bring the family together, with a focus on nature; in particular access to the Solent with all associated water activities.

103_LMMC Municipal Art Centre / Replus Bureau

The ver first Municipal Art Centre has opened in Lviv at 11 Stefanyka street. The space is simple and functional with a lecture hall, a place to sit and work or relax. There is also a small multimedia library with a turntable, vinyl records and some rare books. A neo-Gothic building, bare walls with authentic murals inside, the first wheelchair ramp that was made following all the legal standards and requirements, paintings and chairs found in a dumpster (in the best traditions of Berlin interiors), modern quality furniture and light are among things that made the art centre controversial and non-trivial. Nobody expected such combinations in a municipal cultural institution where the design decisions impress visitors right from the doorstep.

Approached by a friend who represents a Minimal-window producer from Portugal, called PANORAMAH. We, were given the task of developing a sort of case study home, in the Murud region amidst a coconut grove. The windows being super high-tech and modern in their presence were meant to disappear against the verdant view.

A New Reduction House in Kawagoe / DOG

January 21, 2021 Valeria Silva 0

This is a project to reduce a traditional 50 year old Japanese house because it is too large for two adults to live in. Originally, it was a corridor + marginal type, and the interior was dark as a whole, and there was almost no light even on the north side during the day.

Sequis Tower / KPF

With its thoughtful urban design, skyline-defining form, and focus on sustainability, the Sequis Tower is a new paradigm for Indonesia’s burgeoning capital. “The design for Sequis Tower starts with a simple rectilinear form, which we turned into a series of bundles, and adjusted their heights to create landscaped terraces,” said Robert Whitlock, FAIA, KPF Design Principal. “We used the Banyan tree as a metaphor for the tower, rising organically as a series of finely scaled elements.”

Two Languages House / Pepa Diaz Arquitecta

This is a house that takes position in its place. At PDA we wanted to rethink the need with which many people of this area arrive: obtaining infinite horizontal surfaces with no sense of belonging to the place where they exist when actually most of them present characteristics that allow us to integrate architecture in its surroundings.

Schulzendorf House / Transstruktura

Initial situation / concept idea. The house for a family of four was built in a Brandenburg village on the outskirts of Berlin. The narrow and elongated plot of land, which is situated next to a typical pine forest, had a significant influence on the planning. We used the advantages of the property and developed the principle of “living-through” together with the owners. Thus, the main rooms are equally oriented towards the forest in the north and towards a cobbled avenue on the south side. The architectural context of the surrounding settlement structure with gable roof houses from the post-war period had to be taken into account, without compromising on the contemporary design of the building.
