Healing Hills Villa / Zen-In Architects

October 19, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

The Healing Hills Villa was originally a deserted courtyard atop a small hill, surrounded by lush green trees with twisting roots, making it feel as if it were protected by 48 old camphor trees. The transformation of the architectural space relies entirely on the relationship with the trees—neither encroaching upon them nor isolating them. There are three strategies. First, the scattered buildings were integrated into three courtyards, each relatively independent yet closely connected. Second, the boundaries between the built environment and the natural surroundings were blurred, allowing trees to coexist within the courtyards and the courtyards to extend into the trees, creating a seamless interaction between architecture and nature. Finally, new functions were infused based on the distinct characteristics of each space, creating a bridge of experience between the “artificial” and the “natural”.

The Experimental House / OHMA Design

October 16, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

The experimental house was born from the life story of the resident. She is a curious person who loves doing new things. She has a degree in biochemistry and pharmacy. Now, the experiment this time was her own house, a discovery of how she would like to live in the countryside and what a home would be like for her. The construction began in 2016, when the first part was completed and she lived there until she resumed the second part in 2023, which was completed in the same year.

Hans & Werner / van Baal interior design + Tomasz Budnicki

October 16, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

As interior designers, we often create spaces that are complete and self-contained. But this time we have taken a different approach. Our latest design is not just a space, but a canvas for human interaction. Designed by van Baal interior design and Tomasz Budnicki and located on the modernist Siemensdam campus, the Hans und Werner Kantine bridges the gap between the architectural heritage and the contemporary pulse of Berlin’s new office district. The groundfloor of an old factory building has been transformed into a lively restaurant.

Onça Warehouse / Estudio Pedro Haruf

October 12, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

The warehouse is a commercial and service space located in the small town of Onça do Pitangui, in Minas Gerais. It offers products from agroforestry systems and handicrafts made by local small-scale producers, as well as serving coffee and regional baked goods to both residents and tourists. The project occupies a small building from the early 20th century. The construction, adjacent to a colonial house, has two floors: the ground floor, which sits slightly above street level, and a basement that adapts to the slope of the land. The property is located on the right side of its lot, at the entrance to the town, just before the town hall square.

Double Header House / D’Arcy Jones Architects

October 12, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

The Double Header house is a unique take on the main house and secondary suite type that has become common in Canada’s major cities. Rather than placing the suite in the basement, the Double Header house comprises two mirrored volumes connected by a simple, functional spine. This building is clad with galvanized steel shells, which open like metallic flowers to the front and back yards equally, creating a compact new housing type that allows a regular urban lot to accommodate six to eight people or three generations of one family. The double-headed form was primarily generated in response to the zoning regulations requiring secondary suites to be attached to the main house. The smaller suite is apartment-like, ideal for the two grandparents, while the larger suite houses their adult children and two grandkids. This multi-generation arrangement allows the grandparents to live close to the city centre with their adult children to provide childcare for their grandkids while enabling them to age in place with the close assistance of their family.

Sharjah Mosque / MJU Engineering Consultancy

October 9, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

The mosque designed by MJU Engineering Consultancy for the Sharjah Driving Institute exemplifies a harmonious blend of contemporary architectural language with traditional Islamic motifs, reflecting both cultural significance and modern functionality. The design draws inspiration from the rich history of Islamic architecture, characterized by intricate geometric forms and the use of light. The façade features elaborate “mashrabiya” screens that filter sunlight, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow within the interior spaces. This not only enhances the spiritual ambiance but also promotes energy efficiency by reducing heat gain.

RCL House Renovation in Alto de Pinheiros / entre escalas

October 8, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

Located in the Alto de Pinheiros neighborhood in São Paulo, the existing semi-detached house occupies a narrow, long 5x35m plot. The challenge of the architectural project, without being a radical overhaul as a premise, was to maintain the existing concrete structure, without the need for structural reinforcement. The volume of the staircase and toilet were also maintained.
