Cliffhanger House / Joe Adsett Architects

September 21, 2023 Hana Abdel 0

With unrivalled views of the expansive landscape, Cliffhanger seamlessly connects a masculine edge with soft material choices. Situated on an expansive, grassed sloping site, the form of the building is overwhelmingly comprised of off-form concrete and masonry construction. The composition of the house is deceivingly simple. In essence, the building exists as a folded concrete shell, balanced carefully upon blockwork foundations that anchor into the sloping topography below. From arrival, the distinct structure of Cliffhanger instantly snares the attention with curving concrete flowing to the entrance and the structure’s sharp edge that cantilevers away from the base of the home. Working with a constrained area of land, the partial outcropping of the home introduces an extended and functional living space for the occupants that provides privacy from neighbours. The design features an impressive 6.5 metre concrete cantilever and full-height glazing along entire eastern façade.

Contentful Workplace / toi toi toi creative studio

September 21, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

toi toi toi creative studio (T3) researches, designs, and delivers feel-good spaces. This ethos was  applied to the 8,215 sq.m interior for Berlin’s software company Contentful. The imminent return  of employees after the corona pandemic required rethinking the work environment. T3’s vision  was to design human-centric, agile spaces of a new standard. At the outset, a design committee was established with representatives from each Contentful  department, enabling employees to participate fully in the transformation. The result is a space  with human interaction at its core.  ‘Contentfulers’ start their day with end-of trip-facilities such as underground-bike parking,  showers, a fitness room, and custom-designed smart lockers situated throughout the interior. For  a bit of fun, individually programmed speakers in the custom-designed gender-neutral  washrooms make every trip to the loo a different musical experience.
