3D Printing with Low-Carbon Concrete: Reducing CO2 Emissions and Material Waste

March 31, 2022 Rene Submissions 0

After water, concrete is the second most-consumed material on the planet and its production is substantially growing, expected to increase from 4.4 billion tons, reaching production up to 5.5 billion tons by 2050. Unfortunately, this comes at a huge environmental cost, accounting for almost eight percent of the global carbon emissions. With this estimated expected growth, stakeholders in the construction industry must work on integrating sustainable building materials and innovative processes.

5280 Courtyard House / Barkow Leibinger

March 31, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

This live/work compound is situated against the foothills of Mt. Elis along Leverich Creek on a gently sloping site facing Bozeman MT. and the Bridger Mountain Range. The region around the house is characterized by a mix of farmland with barns and ranch houses, suburban housing, and a nearby Richard Neutra house in log construction. Several other excellent mid-century examples of houses by Hugo Eck and Ozzie Berg are nearby including his Breeden Fieldhouse at Montana State University from 1957 which was the world’s largest span glulam timber structure in the world. Winters are extreme, summers are short. Bozeman, which used to be considered somewhat remote, has become a much sought-after community to live in through the Corona pandemic. The advent of digital communication technologies (Zoom etc.) transformed similar cities into more viable places to live and work.

BMT House is our way of retelling the tale of beautiful memories that belong to a young couple, of their love for nature and life’s core values. They shared with us stories of their childhood, when they were born and raised by the simplest poetic beauty of the tiles-roofed house surrounded by a lush green garden, of the poetic and mesmerizing sound of the birds chirping harmonizing with the rushing stream in the front yard.

In S&N Resort / penda China

March 31, 2022 Collin Chen 0

Site. Located in West Dharma Village, Fangshan District, Beijing, In S&N Resort is favorably sited amidst mountains and trees. Legend has it that the twenty-eighth generation of Bodhidharma disciples of Shaolin Temple in Songshan traveled across the world. When passing through the Baihuashan area, they built temples, spread Buddhism, did good deeds, and cured the illnesses of local people under the protection of Bodhidharma. To commemorate the virtues of Dharma, the mountain peak there is called Dharma Mountain and the village is the so-called West Dharma Village. Based on an originally built residential cluster, the 1700 square-meter construction has been replanned and designed. A stream flows gently down the mountain passing through the middle of the site. Huge stones pillow in the river, rounded after years of scouring; many trees grow in the water. The surrounding context is natural and quiet, offering a hint of Zen and depicting a fictitious land of peace.

NPK Micro Town House / MM++ architects

March 30, 2022 Bianca Valentina Roșescu 0

A “resort-style” town house in the center of Saigon. Located in the very dense and hectic district 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, this town house is only 3,6m in width X 10m in depth, tube shape land. The recycled louvers and the ceramic wall blocks of the front façade give a vernacular interpretation from the street, widely opened on the ground floor, like the typical shop houses of the city. In opposition to the bustling public space, and despite a very limited area, the interiors spaces create a “resort” like experience.
