KEPCO Community Lounge / STUDIO I’ll

When I first visited the site, I felt overwhelmed. The entrance from the parking lot was elevated, exposing the interior, and the multipurpose hall’s waiting area was always crowded—unsuitable for relaxation or community activities.

Zambezi River House / Felix Brinkhege

September 1, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

The Zambezi River House overlooks Africa’s mightiest river, which flows into the Indian Ocean; at the same time, it forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Two different national parks surround the Zambezi Fish Farm, whose central building is the project – the smaller Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means “thundering smoke” in the local language and whose end is the Victoria Falls, and the much larger Zambezi National Park on the Zimbabwean side. When the sky is clear, you can see the “thundering smoke” of the falls from the roof terrace of the house, which stir up so much water vapor that they can be seen like a single cloud on the horizon.

D+N2 House / DP+HS Architects

Being an extension house project of the previously designed house by DP+HS Architects, this was a notable project due to its strong presence and unique brief. The clients wanted a tailored home that was sumptuous yet subdued, having the quality of outdoor activity yet enclosed and a private atmosphere. Due to its nature as an extension house, the program is quite straightforward: a collection of rooms to support the activity of the main house, which are a swimming pool, sauna, lounge, playing room, and basketball court.

Karaoke House / Man Office

Initially, while designing this house, we aimed to resolve a fundamental question: how can we revise the architectural approaches of past decades (specifically, the architecture of 1970s Iranian houses in this project). While avoiding nostalgic value judgments that result in fleeting emotions, we wanted to find a solution to revive and utilize elements that have become obsolete due to the expansion of mass production or economic and market forces, such as elements that have significantly contributed to durability, proper functionality, and resistance to erosion. A specific example in this project is the appropriate separation of functional spaces, replacing synthetic and resin-based materials with forgotten materials like washed cement, which requires skilled craftsmen’s artistry, and using materials with small tiles that perform better against contraction and expansion.

Orla Apartment / Factsheet

September 1, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

The design of this apartment facing Ipanema beach, in Rio de Janeiro, was designed for a couple with two young children, who wanted a space to accompany their daughters’ growth and also environments with privacy for home office work. The highlight of the project is the panoramic view of the sights of Rio de Janeiro and the sea at Ipanema Beach. From dinner, it is possible to see Morro Dois Irmãos, and from the home theater, a part of Arpoador. The kitchen is integrated into the living and dining room and was designed using the same materiality to function as an extension of the social area.

Designed as an integral part of the so-called “Platina Axis,” the project aims to offer high-quality spaces for work, services, and leisure to the neighborhood and the East Zone as a whole, contributing to the reduction of long and exhausting commutes to historically centralized work hubs in the city. The Crona 665 building occupies a prime location at one of the main intersections of the Platina Axis, between Platina and Vilela Streets. Its neighbors include developments offering a wide range of services such as retail, dining, healthcare, leisure, and residences of various sizes. Located just 150 meters from Carrão Metro Station, with proximity to major access roads, train stations, bus corridors, and bike lanes, Crona 665 establishes direct connections between businesses and people.
