Green House / Aoc architekti

The land is located in the original part of the village of Dvorce in Prague Podolí. It is a remarkable plot on the edge of a residential area with views of the opposite bank of the Vltava River and the Church of St. Philip and Jacob in Zlíchov. The family of the current owner has lived on this site for several generations. The task was to convert a worn-out family house from the 1960s into a comfortable residential villa for individual living of a high standard.

Tenjincho Place Apartment Complex / Hiroyuki Ito Architects

The site is located along the approach to a renowned shrine and on the edge of a plateau in Yushima, Tokyo. In recent years, numerous hotels in the area have been replaced by apartment complexes, resulting from a rapid transformation of the area’s character. Two complexities of the site have been significant factors for the design–the shape of the plot and the lighting conditions resulting from high-rise buildings surrounding it from three directions. By wrapping a curved volume around a central void, each residential unit obtains light, wind, and views.

Upper Wall, Low Wall Residence / Kode Architects

Closed Site – Apartments, with all their amenities and infrastructure, are the most common and efficient form of living in Korea. For those who choose to live in a detached house instead of an apartment, there must be certain things that make them want such a way of living. Terraces where you can feel nature at any time, large open gardens, and characteristic exteriors with different looks are definitely unique attractions of houses that you can’t find in apartments. However, the reality is that densely packed urban planning has resulted in a large number of clustered homes closed on four sides, each with its own privacy, in housing complexes. The same was true for the subject land. As the site was surrounded by other houses on all four sides, the housing condition should be sensitive not only to the privacy of the owner but also to that of neighbors. In the urban context around the site, despite the existence of a large green space nearby, it was impossible to take an unhindered view of the natural landscape due to the houses on the adjacent land. Therefore, we intended to build a house that reflected the client’s needs while protecting both their privacy and that of the neighbors and securing the maximum sense of openness in the closed site.

The project of Clinic Pupila, one of the most beautiful initiatives we have ever been a part of, adapted an existing building to house a social center for psychological assistance and collective education, dedicated to the care and development of vulnerable children and their families.

Fornole Pizza / Florencia Rissotti Arq

Inside what was formerly a mechanical workshop, a large open kitchen was set up for making pizzas and breads. A ribbon wall delimits the space, acting as a curtain, lowering the scale of the large concrete box and at the same time, hiding service spaces: kitchen, refrigerated chamber, flour warehouse, bathrooms. All kitchen devices organize the space as islands, as silver and stainless elements. In this way, the entire manufacturing process is visible and can be explored and felt as a single space.

Exhibition for the 35th São Paulo Biennial 2023 Choreographies of the Impossible / vão

April 5, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

Since the beginning of the design and graphic process of the 35th São Paulo Biennial, Choreographies of the Impossible, we were challenged to think about and through the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion. Designed and built in the 1950s, the building is notoriously known as a work by Oscar Niemeyer; however, it is necessary to say, in collaboration with architects Eduardo Kneese de Mello, Hélio Uchoa, and Zenon Lotufo. The architecture of the Pavilion, marked by the symbolic and representative weight of an era, challenged us to temporarily inscribe a choreography of paths and spaces different, with the purpose of splitting, or at least cracking its monumental character.

Espinosa Studios / Julio Sanchez Arimayn

April 5, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

Espinosa arose from the desire to have a space where things could happen. In this search, a shed appeared, hidden in La Paternal, formerly a warehouse, with a series of constructions inside a house at the front converted into offices, a sausage house in the center, a large industrial mezzanine, a concrete structure without much sense. It was a great sum of moments and needs to be patched together, all under a large sheet metal roof.

House of Winds is a compound of 3 temple villas of imposing architecture with raw materials on the island of Gods, Bali. Every villa is a three-bedroom en-suite and is located in the serene area of Umalas. The villas are designed symmetrically on each other, with no second floors, so they keep perfect privacy between villas.

Plot 33 Residence and Studio / playball studio

April 4, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

‘Plot 33’ is an honest study about how to achieve a balance between inside-outside, work-life, privacy-openness, reused-new materials, adaptability-single use, etc. This project is also an attempt to amalgamate the aspirations of an Architect duo coming from diverse backgrounds – South Asia (India) and Southern Europe (Spain) – in the rapidly growing city of Rajkot, India. The site is located in a tight urban residential neighborhood adjacent to the region’s university campus. It is a 10 x 24 meters parcel of land, with the northern short side facing the road that leads to the university. On the opposite side of the plot, across the road, there is a small public park with large sheltering trees.
