The Architecture of Circular Courtyards in Mexico

February 2, 2023 Mónica Arellano 0

One of the most important factors when designing is the specific climate of the site. This can be a difficulty when dealing with extreme climates and it is necessary to use insulating materials that adapt to the changing conditions. However, when talking about Mexico and its particular climate this works in the architects’ favor allowing them to create microclimates and spaces that blur the transition of what turns out to be indoors and outdoors.

Leshan Pocket Park / VIASCAPE design

February 2, 2023 Collin Chen 0

The source of Happiness: Reconstruct the public life behind Zikawei – Leshan pocket park, covering an area of 5600m2 in the very center of the Leshan community, appears to be the only integrated open space in the whole community. The pocket park is only 800m away from Zikawei, and within walking distance of various adjacent office towers, Schools, kindergartens, and universities. Before the renovation, the pocket park has an enclosed space with deteriorated conditions, making it hardly feed the current needs of public life. The concept of “shared happiness” of Leshan pocket park is weaved into the fabric of multifunctional spaces for both the elderly and kids, for viewing and wandering, playing and resting, reading and sharing. The final design covers activities for a full range of age groups while providing a holistic solution of landscape design as a public good. The design reconstructs the flourishing public life of Zikawei at the back, making the park itself act as an essential medium to activate urban public life.

Prior to this, the land had a 4-meter dip in elevation, which is now at an even height. The Yangsan Panorama House overlooks the Dangchon reservoir and has a stunning view of the mountains, which cannot be seen from the road. According to the owner’s wishes, the interior and exterior of the house were built with solid materials that make for a rather simplistic and minimalist design.

This is a newly built for 135 children based on the concept ‘Cultivate Imagination and the Hometown Love. In the past, the owner’s temple was much closer to local people, and children were taken more care of by them. Not only for praying but also for shopping, taking a walk, and enjoying the show tent so that the temple was the place for every neighbor to gather and have a good time. Children play there as well, have good communication with local people and cultivate their love for their hometown. But the good relationship more and more decreased with the times.
