Anahita factory project, right, is a symbol of the critical projects of ShahrA Shahr Architecture Office. The fact that society is used to a type of architecture in the context of industrial towns and reacts when faced with different behavior, this reaction is constructive from our point of view.

Holmøy Production Facility / Snøhetta

September 18, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Spanning many years, the collaboration between Holmøy Maritime and Snøhetta includes the design of the company’s administration premises and several industrial buildings constructed in the period between 2014-2021. The new facility is located on the neighboring site at Liland outside Sortland in Northern Norway, and is characterized by transparency – both with large windows and natural light into the production halls, but also between the visitor and the production line at the facility. Seawater is used to heat and cool the building, in combination with a heat exchanger and heat pump. Filtered seawater is also used in production, and several kilometers of seawater pipelines have been laid in the fjord just outside the plant.

Dotted with cornflowers and poppies, the high embankment hides the building from the view of those arriving from the main road to the south; hidden by the grassy and flowery carpet, the spaces develop mainly inside it. It is the context, here, that dictates the conditions: a settlement situation very common in the Veneto plain and characterized by the mixture of houses and warehouses. Located on the built-up edge of a small town in the province of Venice (Fossalta di Piave), the lot is confronted with the presence of an industrial area and a low-density residential fabric, with a prevalence of single-family homes and patches of urban countryside punctuated by the presence of vines.

Brickkiln Lane Innovation / MAT Office

April 14, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

This Brick Kiln is located in a corner of the former Beijing Brick and Tile Factory, Xisanqi Street, Beijing. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the Brick and Tile Factory supplied a large number of black bricks and clay bricks to the projects from the State Council and the “Top Ten Buildings in Beijing”, contributing to the development of the capital city. With the development of the city and the transformation of location functions, when the brick factory was closed in 2012, mature communities with residences, innovative technology parks, and primary and secondary schools had been established around it, and the value of the urban area had been greatly improved. In addition, due to its age and disrepair for a long time, the brick kiln building has been structurally identified as a dangerous building that is on the verge of collapse, and in urgent need of overall renovation. Therefore, how to fully preserve the external form and historical memory of the original brick kiln, while also leveraging its location advantages, adapting to current usage requirements, and supplementing the cultural, creative, and leisure functions required for urban life has become a key point in this renovation.

Pad(dock) Factory and Office Renovation / one-aftr

March 3, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

In the Sungsoo district, known for its youthful and trendy atmosphere, the renovation of industrial buildings has given rise to a distinct architectural style characterized by rough concrete finishes and the replacement of traditional facades with expansive glass storefronts. While these transformations have invigorated Sungsoo economically and culturally, they mask a fundamental issue concerning old industrial buildings in Seoul: the lack of insulation. In our efforts to revamp an outdated and uninsulated factory for a label fabrication company, insulation took center stage as a critical feature of the transformation.
