The historical Veterinary School in Anderlecht lies at the origin of the Cureghem quarter. After over 20 years of disuse, the main building is converted into a business and conference centre aiming to boost the economic revival of the area.
Pivot Park – Pivot Park in Oss is a campus for open innovation in the field of drug discovery and development serving both start-ups and existing companies. Open innovation seems to be the keyword for the success of Pivot Park. Access to the unique, high-quality R&D facilities and knowledge exchange with the community of other companies from all phases of ‘drug development’ make the campus a pharmaceutical focal point in The Netherlands. Soon, the Marie Curie building will host more than 350 talents who will be working on new treatments and medicines, mostly in the field of cancer.
We were given the opportunity to design a tenant building near Yotsuya Station as our third project following “ESCALIER Gobancho” and “ESCALIER Kojimachi” which we have designed in the past.
Transformation of a 1960s Wooden Apartment Building in Tokyo’s Minato Ward into a Commercial Rental Property. In the heart of Tokyo, Minato Ward, a traditional wooden apartment building, originally comprising six separate units, has been reimagined into a single cohesive commercial space. This architectural transformation involved a complete internal renovation, where all interior walls were demolished to create an open and unified living environment.
Spanning many years, the collaboration between Holmøy Maritime and Snøhetta includes the design of the company’s administration premises and several industrial buildings constructed in the period between 2014-2021. The new facility is located on the neighboring site at Liland outside Sortland in Northern Norway, and is characterized by transparency – both with large windows and natural light into the production halls, but also between the visitor and the production line at the facility. Seawater is used to heat and cool the building, in combination with a heat exchanger and heat pump. Filtered seawater is also used in production, and several kilometers of seawater pipelines have been laid in the fjord just outside the plant.
The experience of reinhabiting a space, of recovering, of building upon what has already been built. Experiencing the transformative power of architecture and its beauty in the collective process of transformation. Insisting on living in the center, rethinking the city. Valuing a structure, paying homage to time and space. Understanding history to be part of it.
Standing beside a railway line, the existing building of the National Office of Forests of Versailles (l’Office National des Forêts de Versailles) asserts its role in the urban landscape as the point of entry to the state-owned forest. Our simple idea for the project was to build a pavilion as an extension of an existing building that fits humbly into the forest context and, through its volumetry and materiality, expresses the different occupations of the ONF. The objective was to create new working spaces that met the functional requirements of the brief but that also approached the workplace as a singular spatial and landscaped experience. We designed this pavilion to arouse the curiosity and wonderment of visitors. Whether they are collaborators or just passersby, we want their discovery of this place to be an immersive experience, where every corner is an ode to the skills and expertise of foresters.
Located on an urban plot in the city of Bauru, the building designed to house an architectural office has its greatest attribute in its relationship with the urban environment. Its placement on a steeply sloping site allows for the creation of a generous basement, accommodating the larger-scale elements of the program. Thus, the garage, administration areas, and project rooms occupy this level, alongside a courtyard with a garden and ample natural light.
Situated amidst the serene forest surroundings near a small river, yet seamlessly connected to the vibrant road to the city center, the architecture studio stands as a testament to thoughtful integration with its environment. Embracing its dual identity, this office harmoniously blends into its natural setting while making a striking statement along the roadside.
Positioned on a corner site in Collingwood, this medium-density commercial building celebrates the mature gumtrees at the rear. Our aim was to connect the project to its green surroundings. While simple in concept, the execution was deeply considered. The focal point is the borrowed landscape.
