Kalvebod Fælled School creates the framework for lifelong learning. Here, a social vision of sports and children leading active lives finds its shape. The school is situated in the protected landscape of Ørestad South in Copenhagen, between the grazing cattle and the city. It’s an open, bustling community. When the school day ends for the students, others join; parents and local community residents use the gymnasium and classrooms for sports, courses, and social events.

A campus building not only focuses on the present but also looks to the future; it not only addresses learning needs but also growth needs; it is not only efficient but also vibrant. At the newly-built North Campus of Shenzhen Senior High School Group (hereafter referred to as “North Campus”) where the teaching scene is vibrant, we encourage students to explore knowledge, their surroundings, and the world spontaneously, as learning exists in the dynamic relationship that is built by children and campus resources brick by brick.

An international school that provides a nursery and after-school program designed on the campus of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. The site was designated at the end of a tree-lined avenue extending from the university’s central plaza. It was a hill-like place with a height difference of about 2 meters, and I was told that the hill was made of leftover soil that had been piled up when the student dormitory next to it was built. The site was segregated by a surrounding chain link fence, and it seemed detached from the entire campus as being located at the far end, where weeds grow so thick that you might hesitate to enter in the summer. There was a cut in the center that divided the hill into two, and a smoking area was set up at the back, probably because it was out of sight from the surrounding area.

Located near public facilities, the neighborhood center, the “Val d’Argenteuil” train station, and in a wooded environment, the Fernand and Nadia Léger High School benefits from an urban dynamic driven by a changing neighborhood. This operation is therefore part of a complete reorientation of the equipment and made it possible to initiate the creation of a unifying center linked to the city through the affirmation of its urban facade and in dialogue with the interior of the plot.

In the west of Ludwigsburg, the new 5.5-track primary school building stretches northwards along the new development area of Fuchshofstrasse. Based on the design image of a filled bookshelf on a playground, this ideal of school learning between knowledge transfer and social interaction was translated into a timber hybrid building. The three ceiling panels cantilever outwards like shelves and offer the school community space for appropriation and individual filling in the middle of a flowing outdoor area. A covered area cut into the building cubature on the first floor welcomes the children and runs parallel to the administration area, alongside the rooms for the school staff, thus promoting contact between students and teachers. As you enter the building, you find yourself in the actual heart of the building – the large stair hall.
