Step by Step: Exploring 12 Projects Featuring Staircase or Terraced Roof Designs

September 30, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Pitched roofs and terraced lots or hillsides are some of the oldest, yet still highly functional, solutions for rainwater dispersal, redirection, and erosion management. While most constructions today still opt for traditional pitched or flat roofs, advancements in construction materials and techniques are leading to greater design exploration and layout variations. This has resulted in a rise in green roofs, passive insulation solutions, and more innovative uses of rooftops. Building Methods in Focus: The Solid vs Hollow Partitioning Debate

September 30, 2024 Jonathan Yeung 0

Two primary building approaches are commonly identified in architecture and design: solid versus hollow construction. These methods vary significantly across different cultures and regions, specifically for interior partitioning systems, when they appear interchangeable. Each has its own established practices influenced by local materials, labor preferences, climatic conditions, and cultural traditions. Duling Educational and Cultural Centre / Project Mingle, The University of Hong Kong

September 29, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

Our journey began in the quaint Hakka village of Duling, nestled in the verdant countryside of Guangxi, China. Duling is a place where time seems to slow down and the air thrums with the rhythms of rural life. This village, home to a community of around 3,000 Hakka people, is a place where the values of hard work and education are deeply ingrained in the fabric of everyday life. Nestled amidst a land blessed with ample rainfall, but suffering from a scarcity of fresh water, the village faced a paradoxical challenge. The villagers, who witnessed rain showers on a regular basis, found themselves reliant on a meager supply of well water due to the absence of a water infrastructure. This deficiency gave rise to hygiene concerns that threatened to endanger the health and well-being of the community, particularly the vulnerable younger generation.
