June 6, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

If the neighborhood of Pinheiros, in the West Zone of São Paulo, is currently going through an intense transformation, the region of Largo da Batata – one of the historically bustling areas of the neighborhood – solidifies this moment with the inauguration of the LAPI development in March 2024. Developed by Jacarandá Capital, with architecture by Superlimão and masterplan by Spol, the development will occupy an area of 20,000 m², the result of the integration of 29 properties arranged in three blocks.

La Felipa is a 55m² apartment located in a 1960s suburban neighborhood of Madrid. This transformation was approached with two main objectives: to honor and dignify the original character of the property, without pretense or extravagance, and to adapt the spatial layout from the typical compartmentalized arrangement of this era to a hybrid and flexible use that would cater to the needs of its new owner.

Originally the post office of Louvain-la-Neuve, the characteristic building housed several teaching courses for the University of Louvain until its final occupation as a ‘school for sound’. Overcompartmentalized and acoustically insulated to meet recording standards, the clarity of the architecture and the simplicity of its materials were lost.

The Automatic Mills, a national cultural monument, is one of the first buildings designed by the architect Josef Gočár. Standing on the banks of the Chrudimka River in the center of Pardubice, the monumental mill building was created in 1909 for the Winternitz brothers. In 1924, the complex was extended to include a grain silo, the conversion of which we designed. The automatic mills operated continuously for more than 100 years until 2013. Since 2016, the mill brownfield has been transforming a cultural and social urban district, thanks to the initiative of the Automatic Mills Foundation.

Roof With 20 Concrete Ribs / Atelier Zafari

In a backyard in Berlin Neukölln, we removed the roof from an old five-story factory building and created a new 250-square-meter unit with a roof terrace. The existing building consists of a side wing and an almost square transverse building. This T-shaped floor plan structure creates two backyards. It is accessed through the existing staircase in the second courtyard in the side wing and through an external elevator on the transverse building. The second existing staircase in the first courtyard only serves as the second escape route but is also conceivable as an access route.
